The North Queensland University Association was formed to raise £50,000 to establish two residential hostels, scholarships and to provide library facilities.  Donations came from Cairns, Innisfail, Cardwell, Charters Towers, Bowen, Mackay, and from a number of local firms and clubs in North Queensland.
