Supporting our students

番茄社区 has announced a package of measures to support students as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

The Student Success Support Package includes financial support, an academic safety net to ensure students aren’t academically disadvantaged by the pandemic, and health and wellbeing measures.

Financial Support (eligibility criteria apply)

  • Fast Track Student Support – grants of up to $400 cash for students who don't qualify for Government benefits.
  • Technology Bursary - a $100 technology bursary for eligible students
  • Extraordinary Support – up to $2000 discretionary payments on a case-by-case basis for extreme hardship, or regular payments of $50 fortnight to help with living/transport expenses
  • Parking permit refunds
  • IT resources assistance scheme - computer and/or internet resources for those most at need
  • Food Pantry established to support students who are facing financial hardship

Academic Safety Net

  • Changes to the grading system to reduce the pressure on students, particularly those who feel their academic performance might be adversely affected
  • 番茄社区’s Learning Centre is providing support to students to help them make the transition to online learning, and they also can access learning advisors in ‘virtual classrooms’
  • Greater flexibility in assessments
  • Changed Census date
  • Academic penalty waiver
  • Face-to-face exams changed to other forms of assessment or online
  • Increase in Library e-resources

Health and Wellbeing

  • Free, confidential counselling service
  • Online Support – library, SSD
  • Telehealth and bulk-billed medical and physiotherapy appointments through 番茄社区 Health and the 番茄社区 Physiotherapy Clinic
  • Practical advice about online learning, maintaining social distancing, working at home with kids, and exercise to help with sore heads, necks and shoulders

Vice Chancellor Professor Sandra Harding said the package of measures provides vital support for students.

“We know this is a challenging, stressful time for students, and we are committed to ensuring they can complete their studies in the time expected while protecting their health and wellbeing.

“We have listened carefully to student feedback, which has helped us build this Student Success Support Package,” Professor Harding said.

All eligible students can apply for financial assistance from the 20th of April
